From Mother’s notebook · Original formula

Air Freshener

Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp distilled water
  • 2 Tbsp alcohol, witch hazel, or vodka (alternatives listed in the notebook)
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (ditto mark interpreted as 10 drops)

Directions

  1. The notebook lists ingredients but no mixing or spraying instructions. It appears intended as a scented room spray, but the exact preparation method was not recorded.
  2. This formula is preserved for reference rather than recommended for spraying around pets. Essential oils do not remain evenly dispersed in water without an appropriate solubilizer.

Family notebook notes

The handwritten title is “Air Fresher.” The display title “Air Freshener” is an editorial spelling adjustment. The notebook appears to offer alcohol, witch hazel, or vodka as alternatives. The lavender line uses a ditto mark after the preceding “10 drops” amount.

Care and safety notes

This is a historical formula, not a verified pet-safe air spray. Cats and other pets can be sensitive to airborne essential oils, inhaled droplets, or residue deposited on fur and surfaces. Avoid spraying essential oils around animals and avoid direct exposure. Oil and water may separate, leading to uneven concentrations. Alcohol-containing preparations can also be flammable. Do not spray near flames or heat sources.
