Christmas Cheese Ball
An old-fashioned party recipe submitted by Kathy Boesel and preserved from a local Christmas cookbook.
Gather
Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 8 ounces soft sharp cheese
- 1 slice onion, finely diced
- Crushed walnuts, enough to coat
- 1 maraschino cherry, for topping
Prepare
Directions
- Soften both cheeses in a bowl for about ½ hour.
- Add finely diced onion and combine thoroughly (the original suggests using a hand blender).
- Roll the cheese mixture in crushed walnuts to form a ball.
- Top with the maraschino cherry.
- Serve chilled. The original says this can be made ahead and frozen for three months before gifting.
Kitchen Notes
The original does not specify amounts for walnuts or identify the particular soft sharp cheese. Freezing advice is historical and has not been retested.
