Eyeglass Cleaner & Cleaning Cloth

Ingredients

  • Equal parts water and alcohol (the notebook says “half water, half alcohol” without a total quantity)
  • 1 drop soap

Directions

  1. Original eyeglass cleaner note: combine half water, half alcohol, and one drop of soap. The notebook does not specify the type or concentration of alcohol or a total batch size.
  2. Original cleaning-cloth directions: dampen the cleaning cloth, add one drop of soap, rub the soap into the cloth with fingertips, rinse well with warm water, and hang to dry.

Family testing notes

This page contains two related instructions: “Eye glass cleaner” and “Cleaning cloth.” The eyeglass cleaner has been personally used repeatedly with good results. The separate cleaning-cloth method has not been tried by the family member preserving the recipe. Both are preserved from the notebook.

Care notes

Eyeglass lenses: Some manufacturers caution that alcohol, household cleaners, or unknown soap formulations can damage specialty lens coatings. Check the lens manufacturer’s care instructions before using the original mixture. For everyday cleaning, lukewarm water and a small amount of lotion-free dish soap, followed by a clean microfiber cloth, are generally safer choices when the lens manufacturer permits them.

Cleaning cloth: Rinse until all soap is removed, then hang dry. Avoid fabric softener, which can leave residue on microfiber cloths.
