Family story: “Hush, puppies!”

The creator recalls her father explaining that hushpuppies got their name when women cooking long ago would fry leftover cornmeal mixture into balls, let them cool, and throw them to the dogs while saying, “Hush, puppies!” This is preserved as the story her father passed down, not as a conclusively established origin of the name.

This is the family notebook's hushpuppy recipe, separate from the earlier cornbread and cornmeal preparations.
