Family story
The author's mother developed these molded treats for her two dogs, Jack and Lucy, because she wanted something other than ordinary packaged junk-food treats. She tossed the gummies into the air one at a time, giving each dog about five, and the dogs would try to catch them. Jack sometimes missed, and the gummies bounced along the floor with Jack bouncing after them.
Archival and pet-safety note
This preserves what the family actually made, not a verified nutritionally healthy dog-treat formula. Flavored gelatin desserts and confectioners' sugar can add unnecessary sugar or other ingredients; certain sweeteners, especially xylitol, are dangerous to dogs. Check every ingredient before giving any homemade treat to pets, and use an appropriately formulated dog-safe recipe rather than assuming the original is suitable.
