Cookbook attribution
Adapted from “Smoked Beef Dip,” contributed by Mrs. Roger C. Wilder to the Ideals Family Cookbook. The original directs the cook to soak one teaspoon minced onion in one tablespoon sherry until soft, then add one large package cream cheese, two tablespoons mayonnaise, one-quarter cup minced stuffed olives and one 3-oz package minced smoked beef. It recommends serving with crackers or potato chips.
Adaptation and serving notes
“One large package” of cream cheese has no exact weight in the dictated source; 8 oz is a provisional modern choice, not a confirmed original measurement. The ingredient called sherry is retained, and the original does not specify whether it is cooking or drinking sherry. Wheat-free crackers, cucumber slices and potato chips are possible serving choices, depending on dietary needs. Check stuffed olive and packaged smoked beef ingredients for individual sensitivities.
Storage
Keep refrigerated at 40°F or below and refrigerate leftovers promptly. This is a perishable cream-cheese dip.
