Window Cleaner (Crossed-Out)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup ammonia
  • 1 Tbsp liquid dish soap
  • 1 pint rubbing alcohol
  • ½ gallon water

Directions

  1. The notebook lists the ingredients without an explicit mixing sequence.
  2. It notes possible use on whiteboards and window frames.
  3. Rinse with water immediately after use.
  4. Dry with a clean, dry towel.

Original notebook

Mother titled this “Window Cleaner” and crossed out the entire entry with a large X. Her daughter reports that entries in Mother’s notebooks were generally things she had made. This is preserved separately from her vinegar-and-Dawn glass cleaner.

Safety and surface notes

Never combine ammonia with bleach or chlorine-containing products. Rubbing alcohol is flammable, so keep away from heat and flames. The formula may harm some painted surfaces, plastics, seals and whiteboard coatings; no material compatibility or disinfection claims have been established. Historical formula, not a universal cleaning recommendation.
